Introduction to Male Patterned Baldness
Male Patterned Baldness
Male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is a common type of hair loss characterised by gradual thinning of the temples, mid-scalp, or crown. The onset of this condition varies among individuals and typically affects men as they age.
While the exact cause is partially understood, it is commonly attributed to a combination of genetics and hormonal factors. Those with a strong family history of baldness often exhibit similar patterns of male pattern baldness.
Individuals experiencing hair loss before the age of 24 are prone to more severe balding. If you are facing hair loss at a young age, we highly recommend consulting a hair loss specialist early.
At our clinic, all hair loss treatments begin with a thorough consultation. During this session, our Hair Transplant Surgeon collaborates with you to formulate a personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific goals.
In the early stages, there are several hair loss prevention medications to consider for managing ongoing progression. Common treatments include Finasteride tablets or Minoxidil solution applied to the scalp. It is crucial to find a medical treatment that aligns with your lifestyle, has minimal side effects, and that you are comfortable using long-term.
During hair transplant surgery, we restore your hair using either Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) or Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) techniques. With FUT, a strip is extracted from the back of your head, and individual hairs are implanted into the affected area. Alternatively, with FUE, hairs are individually extracted from the back of your head and implanted into the affected area.

After the procedure, our team will provide you with clear aftercare instructions and conduct regular check-ins. Typically, the back of the head heals within 5-10 days, and most visible signs vanish after 2-3 weeks. Hair regrowth usually begins around 6 months, with significant improvements becoming noticeable after 12 months.
If you suspect you are experiencing male pattern baldness and need expert advice on how to treat it, we encourage you to book a consultation with our Hair Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Clarke, for personalised guidance.
